Such a fabulous evening at Tails Piano Bar for Opera House Theatre Company’s Oscar Party and Fundraiser. OHTC is the oldest theatre company in Wilmington and is a unifying force in our local arts community, and we’re proud to support it.

Tails Piano Bar was all abuzz with chatter and excitement on Sunday, February 24th at Opera House Theatre Company’s Night at the Oscars…until, of course, Senator Harper Peterson stood to choose a raffle ticket from a nearby receptacle. Someone’s night was about to get a lot better.

Senator Peterson handed the ticket to Justin Smith, OHTC Artistic Director.

“The winner of tickets to see Lady Gaga in Las Vegas, airfare for two, a two-night stay in a hotel on the Las Vegas strip, and a $1,000 gift card is…,” Smith said, while a few name announcements and laughter murmured in the background. “Ginger Robles!!”

Needless to say, Opera House knows how to throw a good party. And, this not-so-small prize was just the icing on the cake.

Why Opera House

Not only has Opera House Theatre Company, a 501c3 nonprofit, been supporting and growing the arts community in Wilmington for over 30 years, but they have a way of investing in the community and in local talent in a way that’s fairly unique for a theatre company.

Most performers who start with Opera House, stay with Opera House. Period. Whether they end up on Broadway, in a traveling theatre company or starting a family right here in Wilmington, actors always come back to Opera House for one reason or another. OHTC has become a family for theatre lovers and performers, and it shows.

OHTC’s 2019 Season partnerships are the perhaps the best example of their investment in the community. OHTC has partnered with Theatre for All, a theatre company designed for adults with disabilities, to help them raise awareness and funds. Theatre for All students light up on stage during curtain speeches for Theatre for All Thursdays on Thalian Hall’s main stage. And, all are invited backstage during each performance.

OHTC plans to partner with a nonprofit per show to help strengthen local nonprofits by creating connections and community among them.

In short, this is the kind of nonprofit we will always support.
