Every team member at Audi Cape Fear either knows someone who has been diagnosed with breast cancer, has been diagnosed themselves, or has one or more family members who have been or are fighting this deadly disease. So, this year we wanted to go beyond the pink ribbon pins and get involved in a way that helped to keep the October Awareness hype going.
The Making Strides Against Breast Cancer 5K Walk, taking place in over 150 communities this year, has indeed helped to make significant strides in supporting breast cancer patients and their families across the country. All funds raised through Making Strides Walks will be used for breast cancer research and health equity initiatives.
Because of Audi Cape Fear’s complimentary pick-up and delivery service, we have a large constituency of customers in Myrtle Beach, SC. So, when we heard about the Making Strides event on Oct. 14, 2023, sponsored by Vacation Myrtle Beach and held at the Crown Reef Resort, we decided it was high time to send our community partnership team south-of-the-border.
Our team met over a hundred walkers – survivors, thrivers, and husbands, children, and family members of both. We laughed and cried and sang “Lean on Me” with the crowd after the opening speech.
And at the end of the event, we left knowing two things. One – we have to do this again, and two – we’ll be wearing pink, posting pink, and raising awareness every October, from now on.
